I love getting hyped up about things– and movies are no exception. Over the last few years, I feel like movie trailers have gotten better at getting me psyched up for a film. Or maybe I just have become increasingly better at getting myself worked up over such things… either way… here are a few of the great trailers that have come up recently.

Also, Trailer Addict is a great site. Go waste time there.

Tron Legacy (Coming December 2010)

The transition from subtle and tension-building synth track while the protagonist dusts off old computer equipment to the full-volume cut when the giant structure is landing on an insane looking dark landscape with lightning going off in the sky GETS me. The following fast-cuts as the music crescendos to false-ending title with the lightcycle crash at the end is just icing on the cake. I really hope this movie kicks ass. [link]

Terminator: Salvation

I wasn’t too excited about the new terminator until I saw this trailer. The Nine Inch Nails track is perfect and syncs up with the video amazingly… the fading away as the camera pans up and shows the giant-ass robot, the hit when Marcus realizes he is all fucked up… etc. After I saw this I was super pumped about watching the film… which turned out to actually be pretty good. [link]

Watchmen

Again.. the music is perfect. The Smashing Pumpkins – The Beginning Is the End Is The Beginning. A lot of the cuts match up nicely with the music… and the trailer in general is just badass. It prompted me to go buy the novel (great choice) and read it before hand. The movie was good as well… but really just felt as if they took every other page from the novel and made it into a scene. It seems like anybody who saw the film without reading the novel first would be missing out. [link]

9

I’m not normally a fan of Coheed and Cambria, but their song Welcome Home works really well here. The the classic guitar plucking sounds GREAT contrasted with the heavier guitar parts. Then all of the name dropping like Tim Burton as producer and the ensamble voice talent cast is pretty badass too. It did a great job of building up hype for the movie and definitely wanted to make me see it in the theater. [link]

Notice how all of these trailers use a great song and really tie it in with the action on the screen?

Now I just gotta wait for Tron: Legacy to come out.
